Sigvaris is a Swiss based company established 1864 and employing over 3500 people around the globe. They have developed the Oedema Institute in Australia to improve treatment outcomes in this underserviced area of the health industry. The clinic opened March 2021 and located at the Medical Centre of M City, corner of Blackburn Road and Princes Highway, Clayton.

Thorough assessments and treatments are performed by highly qualified specialists accredited with the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA). By combining their wealth of experience with the latest & most advanced treatment technology, the clinic delivers the highest standard of care to all patients. Such assessments and treatments include:

Bio-impedance

Bio-impedance assessment involves a non-invasive scan of a person’s total body water and mass. It objectively measures the fluid changes throughout the body and swollen limb.

Particularly valuable prior to cancer treatment as a scan pre and post treatment or surgery can detect early changes in fluid and treatment for lymphoedema (occurring in 20% of cancer patients) can start immediately, thus avoiding irreversible swelling.

Lymphatic Massage

A specialised style of massage used to direct lymphatic fluid out of the tissue encouraging

better movement in the lymphatic system.

Osteopathy

Osteopaths have a hands-on approach to treatment and focus on your neuro-musculoskeletal system – the bones, muscles, nerves and other tissues that support your body and control its movements. Osteopaths provide musculoskeletal and nervous system assessments, manual therapy, clinical exercise programs, movement and postural advice.

Sequential Intermittent Pneumatic Compression (SIPC)

SIPC therapy involves the application of external pressure to the limbs that may improve

circulation and removal of lymphatic fluid. Studies have shown SIPC to permanently

decrease limb circumference, improve skin integrity and elasticity.

Laser Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) has beneficial effects on cells and tissues in the

treatment of fibrous scar tissue associated with post scar surgery.

LLLT has been shown to be an effective treatment for;

  • inflammatory skin conditions,
  • leg ulcers,
  • cording and skin grafts
  • chronic non-healing wounds
  • Scar Tissue

The Lipo-Plus Multilase is one of the most advanced LLLT device in photo biomodulation

technology and used at the Oedema Institute for the treatment of inflammation and

decongestion of skin tissue.

Benefits include;

  • Treating larger areas of the body than the more traditional LLLT devices
  • Generating better movement of lymphatic flow
  • Pain reduction in the muscle and joints
  • Increased blood circulation

Recent trials at the Institute on Lipoedema patients showed improvements in;

  • Joint and muscle pain
  • Mobility

With most trial participants reporting increased energy levels.

Many swelling, fluid and vascular issues that present to the institute are the result of cheap and incorrectly fitted garments (pictured here), which further complicates the condition. They have an extensive range in stock and across all brands, therefore having the patient fitted in most cases immediately, and avoiding lengthy wait times.

works for you and your lifestyle. Individualised plans can be designed to accommodate

your goals and needs for best outcomes.
